    Ironwood Studios

    20-Jul-08 04:30 PM:
I worked as Chief Technician and Staff Engineer at Ironwood Studios for nearly 5 years in the late 80's early 90's. Here is a small sampler of that work that I still had on DAT safety masters (most of which still play to this day, as I still have the same make/model of the the DAT machine that made them):
March '91: Leanda Keahi - Come Back To Me - Ironwood

Leanda just booked some time and walked in and I was the staff engineer at the time. She played and sang mostly gospel tunes, and so I made the piano track sound like it was being played in a reverberant "church," and gave the vocal some tube compression (as she was quite dynamic on this track) to give a sort of swelling quality to the reverb on her voice). I thought she really had a great performance on this; as I remember this was the second take and there were no overdubs. All that Gospel singing really is good practice I guess.

Sept. '91 - Diggin Taters - Anarchy Express - Ironwood

A song from John Goode's "Anarchy Express"

Sept. 11, '91 (no shit) Unrest In Baghdad - Jagged Dagger - Ironwood
    (download) (stream)

Another Ironwood walk-in, I was staff engineer for the project. The lead singer told me that all the lines from this song were direct quotes from watching CNN during "operation: desert storm" (others call it the first Gulf War), which was fresh in everyone's minds back then. The Final Mix we did of this was indeed made on September 11th, 1991. Weird coincidence, huh?

I've recently found this mention in the Seattle PI, and this Myspace page of the "Jagged Dagger" band.

    May '92 - Cole'Lition - God Cares - Ironwood
    (download) (stream)

Local Church Band, most of the band's members were related to the local Cole family. None of the tunes had vocals but all had names mentioning something biblical, which struck me as kind of humorous.
